When this all started
NEW JEANS is a K-pop band with five members: Hanni, Hyein, Haerin, Danielle, and Minji. The group has been in the news since August 2024 with a legal battle with its label group, ADOR. The disputes began with the replacement of their mentor and then CEO, Min Hee-jin, which NEW JEANS rejected to accept. According to K-media, HYBE accused Min of severing ADOR from its parent company, HYBE, with the help of outside investors, thus, it had to take action.
The band also accused the label of mistreatment and workplace harassment. They stopped working under the company and renamed themselves NEW JEANS to JNZ.
Achievements
NewJeans, which debuted in 2022, has gained popularity since its debut.
The Billboard stated the group broke onto the Hot 100 with their two singles, “OMG” and “Ditto.” In the next year, 2023, NewJeans became one of the most recognized and influential groups in pop, with sponsorships and accolades to prove it. They were top 100 and 200 with their initial albums.
Their pause sent shock waves not only to their fans but also, an disappointment to those who stands against the unfairness and mistreatment. Although the allegations have not been confirmed yet, but the fact is that the group’s future is now uncertain. The band showed their disappointment and mentioned that this could be their last performance.
This is not something that is new, the treatment towards K-pop tranies, there is nothing that is hidden. From time to time, the ugly face of the entertainment industry has been exposed by these artists, and still, nothing has changed. So many artists have lost their lives and careers fighting and standing against the exploiter companies.
