My Grandmother used to say “Taza Khao, Swath Raho - Eat
fresh, stay fresh.” She used to eat fresh homemade food and made sure for us to
follow the same rules. She had a strong belief that fresh food makes our hearts
healthy and keeps us cheerful. As teenagers, we didn’t appreciate her wise
words, but as we grew up we realized how profound her advice was. Eating
healthy is something that makes your soul and heart happy, you don’t realize
that but, your mood depends on your health. For some keeping health in a good
state is difficult and for some, it is just a matter of some habits. In this
article, we’re going to explain the importance of healthy eating and how that
keeps you healthy.
What is healthy eating?
When it comes to talking about healthy eating, people usually misinterpret it as eating raw or boiled food. Healthy eating is not about a strict diet as it seems or depriving yourself of the food you love. In fact, it’s about eating balanced meals with all the minerals and vitamins, that fulfill the requirements of your body and provide all essential nutrients that make you feel great, and energetic, improves your stamina, and stops your mood swings.Let me explain why healthy eating habits are a must.
1. The Link Between Food and Mood
In an article “Nutritional Psychiatry: Your Brain on Food”
by Harvard Health Publishing, explains how your brain and food are connected.
The article says food works as a fuel to your brain, in their words, what you
eat directly affects the structure and function of your brain and, ultimately,
your mood.
They give an example and say take your brain, as an
expensive car, your brain can be damaged if you don’t use premium fuel. The
same goes for your mood, if you fuel your body with low-quality food it can
damage your mood and your mental health.
2. Boosts Your Immune System
Boosting your immune system is the second most important
part of a healthy body and mind. Eating fresh food, and a wholesome diet
strengthens your immune system. A strong immune system can fight and protect
your body from infections, illnesses, and also from chronic diseases.
Maintaining a healthy diet that includes Vitamin C, antioxidants, and zinc
helps in boosting your body’s defense system just like border patrolling. With
a healthy diet, maintaining your weight and sleep can also improve immunity.
3. Improved Energy Levels
Rich food that contains complexes like carbohydrates, lean
proteins, and healthy fats provides steady and lasting energy, unlike sugary
food. consuming sugar in excess can deplete your energy level. As you’re very
well aware the sugar level in packed and processed food and beverages, these
surgery products spike energy levels initially and a rapid rise in blood sugar
that is followed by a crash and a drop in energy levels.
When you eat well, and include fruits and vegetables you include natural levels of sugar in your blood and you feel more energized throughout the day, which helps improve productivity and overall well-being.
4. Better Digestion and Gut Health
Healthy eating habits that include fruits and vegetables,
play a crucial role in your healthy digestive system. Almost half of the food
items contain fiber, for example, lentils, chickpeas, nuts, oats, apples,
broccoli, sweet potatoes, pears, popcorn, and whole grains. These food items
help in maintaining and regulating bowel movements and improve gut health. In
easy words, fiber helps clean your waste or stool from your gut. A perfect and
well-functioning digestive system is essential for your overall health because
it allows your body to make space for nutrients your body needs and get rid of
dross. And when your gut is feels fresh and light your mood automatically
improves, and become active the whole day.
5. Healthy Weight Management
Healthy weight and height are the keys to success and good mental health, as it is an essential part of modern life. The more you look healthy and attractive the more you tend to get success in certain areas. Eating habits can enhance your weight and facial glow. By focusing on nutrient-dense foods, you’re less likely to overeat and spears you to eating unhealthy snacks. Research says your brain craves unhealthy food when you give it constantly, so if you eat more nutrient food it would stop craving. Include variations in fruits and vegetables, avoid unhealthy snacks as much as you can, or eat occasionally. Healthy eating helps control appetite and promotes a balanced metabolism, which can lead to sustainable weight loss or maintenance.
