With the shared photos and videos of empty beaches and roads on social media, many claims have been made by influencers that Goa is losing its tourism, and they also shared reasons why that might have happened or is happening.

“Is it true?” You must be thinking. A place where everyone wants to spend a few days, at least once in life, is getting out of their list. I’m asking the same question. For decades Goa has been a paradise for party lovers and especially youngsters, now has been in the news since the end of 2024 for all the wrong reasons. Some claim it is now way too costly, some say taxi scams are getting more frequent, and some add angry locals who are fed up with overcrowding streets and beaches, that also are invading their peaceful lives.

However, Goa CM thinks otherwise. Goa CM Pramod Sawant rejected all the claims and said, all hotels in Goa are fully booked for the holiday season, he also urged influencers to come and see themselves.
Whether it is true or not, many users shared their stories on social media, about how they were scammed and overpriced for a few kilometre journeys by taxi drivers (they call it taxi mafia). Sometimes the flight price looks cheaper than a taxi fare. Foreign tourists were their main target, just like any other state in India, who are the big source of tourism in Goa. Some shared the unpleasant behaviour of locals.

Over tourism is always a problem not only in India but around the world. For businesses, it is a good sign but for locals it always gets difficult and when it is they are unable to find transport and bear the disturbances in their daily lives. Although it can’t be denied tourism plays a vital part in any of their development, everything needs to be balanced.
